Tis the Season for Impactful Giving

December 14, 2022

The WT Group believes that helping to build the community is a mission that extends beyond simply providing market-leading design and engineering services. It also means connecting with community leaders, nonprofits and charities that make a difference in the lives of people every day.  Last month, we continued to carry on that tradition by taking the month of November to focus on ‘giving.’

In choosing this year’s featured organization, we were able to spread our engineering and design wings outside of drawings, permits, and plans to focus in other ways we can impact those directly in our community.  We chose the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry due to its wide reach across the local area where our headquarters resides.  In doing so, we were able to help service parts of Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Schaumburg, and Streamwood.

Using a list of items supplied to us by the township as a guide, WT asked employees to donate anything from basic household goods to non-perishable food items to diapers. Elise Stredney, WT Group’s Executive Assistant, was given a tour of the food pantry when dropping off the collected items.  She was shown firsthand the impactful importance businesses such as WT Group can make as well as the outpouring of support and donations from companies similar to ours.  “Seeing firsthand the breadth of fresh food, non-perishables, and other daily household items the food pantry provides really puts into perspective the scope of this wonderful, local service,” she said.  “As a company that focuses heavily on giving back, it feels great knowing that employee contributions are being used to help those locally.”

For over 50 years, the pantry has been supporting residents that have found themselves in challenging and hard times.  Their main goal is to assist those in need with food - one of life's basics necessities that unfortunately skyrocketed at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.  As a 100% donation-based organization, approximately 750 - 850 households are able to use the facility monthly.  In the past two months alone, an average of 836 households have used the food pantry.  “We greatly appreciate support from local businesses like WT Group. This year we’ve seen a marked increase in food pantry appointments, which means food is simply flying off our shelves,” said Director of Welfare Services Diana Nelson. “We humbly share our most sincere thank you to WT Group and its staff for the generous donation!”

To our employees – we say thank you again for your commitment to our community!  Your contribution to the people who received our donations undoubtedly served as a beacon of hope and light during this season of giving.
