WT Group’s Structural Engineering team provided design services for rooftop mechanical unit curb tie-downs on a project located within Florida’s High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ).

The scope involved developing custom structural connection details to ensure rooftop equipment remained securely anchored during extreme wind events in compliance with the Florida Building Code’s HVHZ provisions. Each connection was engineered for full compatibility with the existing roof framing system, maintaining structural integrity while providing the necessary uplift and lateral resistance.

The design emphasized resilience, precision, and constructability —critical factors in protecting building systems within Florida’s most demanding wind zones.
